TIPS TO SHINE AT A JOB FAIR


Attending a job fair is an essential aspect of the job obtainment process. Career Fair are designed for individuals to network with potential employers, gather information about companies and ultimately sell themselves. Here are few tips to really WOW them!

Be Prepared
*Research companies of interest and prepare “natural” sounding questions for them
*60 second commercial to sell yourself! Include
*Background (degree)
*Skills and experience
*Future goals
*Up to date resume
*Professional and conservative attire

Bring

*25-50 copies of your updated resume
*Professional portfolio/folder for resumes, pen, paper, gathered company information, and questions to ask them
*Positive energy, confidence, a smiling face, and a firm handshake

Etiquette

*Name tag on right hand side
*Politely wait your turn to speak with companies- Do not interrupt
*Be the first to offer a handshake (2-3 seconds) and maintain eye contact
*Use the individual’s name they provide in the introduction-call them by Mr. Saurav if they say “Hello I am Mr. Saurav....”
*Keep a conversational flow lasting no more than five minutes, unless employer says otherwise
*Be polite and courteous- thank them for their time and information, and determine appropriate ways to contact them after the fair
*Follow up with employers that spark your interest with a thank you letter (or email)
